It's crazy, but it could be true. The great gunslinger could possibly be headed to Indianapolis. 

Let me preface any further comments by first saying that this is speculation and not fact. However, said speculation is based off some pretty interesting circumstances.

Anyone that follows the Colts knows by now that there is a solid chance that Peyton Manning might not be ready for the start of the season. Thanks to the lockout, he was unable to work with his trainer and was forced to rehab with someone knew after his neck surgery (his second in two seasons). The man has been doing what he can, but it might be too little too late for the start of the season.

If the Colts owner, Jim Irsay, had not said it first this would be something no one would be talking about. Peyton has been a dependable starter throughout his entire career. There is no way that he would miss a start if he could avoid it. Since the man that signs the checks is saying Peyton may not be ready there could be something to it.

Starting the season with even one loss is not acceptable. Irsay knows this, and even though he has not talked about it like Jerry Jones did, you know the man wants to win the Super Bowl played in his stadium. Even one loss to a division rival like Houston in Week One can't happen.

Not to be mean, but Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky, and Mike Hartline have not exactly been inspirational during the preseason. So when Irsay tweets that he is in the hometown of Brett Favre (Hattiesburg, MS) it's easy to think that he's there for one thing and one thing only--Brett Favre.

Favre is the one quarterback that doesn't really need to be in camp to get ready, no matter what team he plays for. What QB in football not named Peyton Manning could give the Colts the best chance to beat the Texans in Week One than Favre?

The whole world also knows that Favre has retired again. He has been steadfast in his position so far. His family has spoken out on the matter, and everyone says that he is done. Bus Cook, Favre's agent, says he has yet to hear of any interest from the Colts.

That doesn't mean that it can't or has not happened (or that it will). Something like this would be big news, and as often as Favre talks about retirement, if he were to give the media even a slight inclination that he has thought about playing--the world would go nuts!

If it were to happen, I think it will be kept quiet till the day Favre shows up to Colts practice facility. Will it happen? I'd like to think not, but with Brett Favre there is no telling!
